Statement of Erin Tañada, Liberal Party vice president on external affairs, on the motorcycle accident involving the President:

Varying sources are reporting this incident with differing accounts of what actually happened.

Any accident involving the President is a cause of national concern and interest. There must be a full and proper disclosure on his health and hospital records. Malacañang should release a physician’s report of the incident that includes the President’s overall well-being.

Article 7 Section 12 of the Philippine Constitution states that, “In case of serious illness of the President, the public shall be informed of the state of his health.”

The President has admitted to being sick, including of myasthenia gravis, which is a rare autoimmune disease that may result in overall weakness. Previously, he has also admitted to having Buerger’s Disease, Barrett’s Esophagus, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), spinal issues, frequent migraines, among others.

Did these illnesses, particularly the autoimmune disease, contribute to this accident?

But is that the real situation? Or are they much concerned about the failing “war on drugs” due to the “ninja cops” brouhaha that they resort to this diversion? Absent an official report from a medical professional, we should be wary of giving undue attention to this deflection.
