LP LEGISLATORS PRAISE PET DECISION ON INTEGRITY OF 2016 ELECTIONS

Liberal Party legislative representatives also celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision to validate the Automated Election System used in last year’s elections.

In its resolution dated August 29 but released only earlier this week, the Supreme Court, sitting as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), junked the first cause of action in Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s electoral protest questioning the integrity and validity of the 2016 election results, citing it to be “meaningless” and “pointless.”

“We welcome this development, a very objective decision from the Tribunal,” said Rep. Kit Belmonte (6th District, Quezon City), the party’s secretary general. “In this regard, one may be forgiven for saying that the victory is clearly in VP Leni’s favor.

Rep. Josephine Ramirez-Sato (Lone District, Occidental Mindoro), party treasurer, also welcomed the decision. “The PET’s ruling is all but a confirmation of the legitimacy of VP Robredo’s victory. We look forward to putting this all behind us so we can all focus to the more important task of governance.”

For his part, Deputy Speaker Rep. Miro Quimbo (2nd District, Marikina) viewed the decision as a clear reminder that democratic processes are still being maintained within the government, despite recent events. “This proves that certain parts of our judicial system are still in place, and that there remain officials who believe in, and work for, the interest of the people,” he said. “It is a good sign.”

Marcos lost the vice presidential bid to VP Leni Robredo by a margin of some 200,000 votes, and has since strived to invalidate her win.

“We welcome this development, a very objective decision from the Tribunal,” sabi ni Rep. Kit Belmonte, (6th District, Quezon City), secretary general ng partido. “In this regard, one may be forgiven for saying that the victory is clearly in VP Leni’s favor.

“The PET’s ruling is all but a confirmation of the legitimacy of VP Robredo’s victory. We look forward to putting this all behind us so we can all focus to the more important task of governance.”

“This proves that certain parts of our judicial system are still in place, and that there remain officials who believe in and work for the interest of the people,” sabi niya. “It is a good sign.”
