We at Partido Liberal are deeply concerned by reports about the ongoing initial manual recount for the vice presidency, in particular the insistence of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) to apply a 50% threshold in ballot revision.
These reports raise concerns, especially in light of the continuous attempt of Bongbong Marcos to discredit the process and steal the position from Vice President Leni Robredo.
If he really is sure of his victory, Mr. Marcos and his lawyers would not resort to cheap tactics, seeking to turn technicalities, caused by circumstances common in any election, into evidence to boost his case.
Disinformation has consistently been a tool used by VP Leni’s opponents, in their bid to cast doubt on her hard-won and well-deserved victory. Attacks have been aimed at her very person, at the good work that she is doing as Vice President — all of which she has taken in stride and with grace undeserved by those who malign her.
As chairperson, she has exemplified the principles of our party. And with that, we commit to stand by her as she takes on this fight — a fight that goes beyond merely affirming the victory she earned fair and square in 2016.
